Hello, lewis,I’m Zhang Xi, I want to know whether those people who was born in Canada, Austrilia, or Britain could understand American idioms and slang. By the way, 4 years ago I met an American friend who was a singer in America, we had a good talk at a jade gallery, he taught me a sentence __” If a person’s cell phone is ringing, you can say them blowing up.” Is it an idiom? what’s the meaning of that sentence? thank you very much.

Hi Zhang, Thank you for your comment. Most people from the other English speaking countries can understand American idioms and slang and vice versa due to the influence of Hollywood and American English generally. There maybe some idioms/slang that we wont understand from each other due to cultural and/or local language reasons. I don’t know the meaning of the quotation you mentioned. Are you sure you got it exactly correct?
