Hi, Lewis, Thank you for your persisting in giving us informations about American idoms and slangs. I really appreciate it. Hope you are well with your new job. My question today is a phrase from my late reading of The Godfather—- make his bones. I could not find its meaning in dictionary, so could you do me a favor?

I can only guess at the meaning of “to make his bones” from the Godfather which probably means that in the Italian Mafia when someone kills someone , the killer receives a high status for the killing. It is a kind of status award that you get within the Mafia system for killing someone. The Mafia members look up to you, they trust you.
